“Houston, We Have A Difficulty !!!!”

by Nazmus Sakib on 2011/02/23

As we are progressing further into the modern age, the world is becoming more difficult to live in.Even despite the ongoing wars, it is a sad realization that we've achieved this "success" on the cost of basic survival. Soon, we won't have clean water, pure air or even tolerable land. In fact, Houston is one of the most polluted cities of one of the most polluted countries of the world. And that alone calls for a Houston hearing.

Ten years ago, pollution might have seemed less important, but today it is a huge issue. All the new construction is at the expense of deadly fumes and toxic waste being thrown out into what was once a clean environment. A situation that was not a problem just a little while back is now a big monster - so much for pristine.

It was maybe unpreventable that we find ourselves living in the middle of chemical factories. While our government is eager to impose sanctions on foreign countries, it needs to lead the way and set a better example. The US and Houston disgracefully top the list has huge producers of carbon dioxide in the world. And, to make things even worse, there is way too much benzene usage. Our environment would be much cleaner without just those two contributing factors.

If we took advantage of some useful ideas we could eliminate this threat. The implementation of a tax based on the air pollution caused by factories and automobiles offers one of the easiest remedies. The result of such a tax would inspire people to use catalyst converters and toxic preventing additives, and at the same time slow down unwanted greenhouse gases. The government's concern would further be seen if they started taxing airline companies and banning space travel to help the ozone layer heal.

No need to throw in the towel though, that we are the ones who can change all this is good news. What we want the future to hold is our choice. We have the control through our correct choices. Because we care about our city, we as residents can take responsibility for this important issue. Since we are the ones who wanted an ideal place, let's participate in solving this problem so we can breathe without ventilators, and without having to pay for our next breath.

Because of that, we have a urgent reason for a Houston hearing.
